On July 17, 2025 Premier Danielle Smith and Nate Glubish, Minister of Technology and Innovation presented a $3.85 million cheque to the Cooking Lake Airport for rehabilitation of the airport's aging runway and apron areas. The runway and apron were last paved by Alberta Transportation back in 1983. The pavements have been very well cared for over the years, but the years have finally caught up to them and it's now time for them to be resurfaced.
Cooking Lake Airport is one of the busiest community airports in Alberta and the oldest operating public airport in all of Canada.
The airport currently serves a variety of users including flight training, search & rescue, medical transport, pipeline inspection, corporate flights, recreation, and more.

Cooking Lake Airport, Canada's Oldest Operating Public Airport to Celebrate 100 Years of Services to the Community
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Cooking Lake Airport. Established in 1926, it is the oldest operating airport in all of Canada.
Volunteers are currently working on a number of activities to celebrate the occasion including ground displays, and a gala dinner and dance.
